Five year olds are explorers in God’s world, excited about learning and discovering. They are discovering a sense of purpose for all that God has created, including a purpose for their curiosity and questions. Often called the “golden age” of childhood, kids in this age group are usually fairly calm, friendly, and eager to please. However, they can be very self-focused and adamant about getting their way. This curriculum guides children from self-focus to God-focus. Fives learn that God’s purpose is to bless us in order to show us who he is. They also learn that God wants us to bless others to show others who He is.

First & Second Grade FOUNDATIONS gives children a broad overview of biblical events in the order in which they happened. They see the Bible as one story as God reveals His character and His plan in a purposeful way, and they see Jesus at the center of God’s plan for bringing the world back to Himself.

Children discover “artifacts” at the Archaeological Dig (your galvanized tub, large box or wading pool) to initiate creative object lessons pertaining to the Bible lesson.

- Wall Mural Puzzle
Each lesson plan has a mural page pattern, shaped like a puzzle piece, to be photocopied and attached to the wall as the class constructs a time line. For continuity, this time line can go with the first grade students (Old Testament study) as they graduate to the second grade (New Testament study).
- Student Notebook
Students can build their own Bible event time line in a loose-leaf notebook. Creativity is encouraged as they draw and color the important event(s) pertaining to each lesson.

Because six year olds are beginning to understand the flow of time, this chronological overview of the Old Testament helps first graders understand that the Bible is one whole meaningful story in itself, not simply a collection of stories told like Aesop’s fables.
This curriculum takes advantage of a six year old’s enjoyment of games and artistic expression in the activities. Most reading is either optional or done as a group so that children who have difficulty will not feel embarrassed.

Jesus: His Life, His Times, His Message takes kids on a journey back in time to gain a new perspective on eternal truth. Children will experience a fresh look at Jesus as they see how God reveals His love through His Son.
They will walk with Jesus as He grows up in ancient Palestine, attends synagogue services, and interacts with real people in his homeland––a land of pluralism not unlike our own. They'll discover how God’s message of love shines against the backdrop of the beliefs of the Jesus' time. And most importantly, they'll experience Jesus "off-the-page" as he becomes relevant to life here and now, leading them to understand why the Good News is truly good news.

This series of 4 books covers the life of Jesus in chronological order, from his birth to his ascension. Taking one lesson per week the entire series can be completed in 52 weeks. It is an excellent fit with the Day By Day Kids Bible, or can be used with any traditional translation of the Bible.
